Visiting Cueva Los Amayas is much more than attending a flamenco show; it’s immersing yourself in the essence of Sacromonte, Granada’s most picturesque neighborhood. However, many visitors wonder: how do I get there easily? In this guide we give you all the options so your arrival is comfortable and you can enjoy the experience to the fullest.
How to Walk to the Sacromonte Caves
Recommended Route: Plaza Nueva → Acera del Darro → Paseo de los Tristes → Cuesta del Chapiz → Camino del Sacromonte
The most authentic and magical way to reach Cueva Los Amayas is on foot.
There are many routes and paths to get there, but we’re going to choose the route from Plaza Nueva, the heart of Granada, since we believe you’ll walk through some of the city’s most iconic streets before entering the Sacromonte neighborhood, the birthplace of flamenco and home to the legendary cave houses.
Walking from Plaza Nueva to Sacromonte allows you to experience the essence of Granada step by step, enjoying history, architecture and unique views. When you arrive at Cueva Los Amayas, you’ll be ready to enjoy an unforgettable flamenco show in a setting that only Granada can offer.

Starting at Plaza Nueva
- This square is one of the most central and busy spots in Granada. From here begins your walk to Sacromonte.

Acera del Darro
- Continue along Acera del Darro, beside the river that gives the street its name.
- Along the way you’ll see old palaces, churches and corners steeped in history.
- The Alhambra rises above the hill, offering spectacular views.

Paseo de los Tristes
- Soon you’ll reach this special place, one of the most photographed in Granada.
- With the Alhambra as a backdrop and lively terraces, Paseo de los Tristes invites you to stop and enjoy a unique atmosphere.

Cuesta del Chapiz
- At the end of Paseo de los Tristes you’ll find Cuesta del Chapiz, which connects Albaicín with Sacromonte.
- Right here you can see Casa del Chapiz, a historic Moorish house converted into the headquarters of the School of Arabic Studies, with a garden and viewpoint worth stopping for.
- From this point, continue straight toward Camino del Sacromonte, the final part of the walk.

Camino del Sacromonte
- As you continue, you’ll see cave houses and feel the gypsy soul of the neighborhood.
- After about 10-15 minutes walking from Cuesta del Chapiz, you’ll reach Cueva Los Amayas, where the magic of flamenco begins.

Why Do We Recommend Walking?
- It’s the most picturesque and cultural route in Granada.
- It offers viewpoints and perfect spots for unforgettable photos.
- It allows you to experience the city’s atmosphere before immersing yourself in the show.
- You avoid traffic and parking problems.
Tips for the Walk
- Duration: about 25-30 minutes from Plaza Nueva.
- Comfortable footwear: the streets are cobbled and somewhat steep.
- Arrive early: ideally leave with time to stroll without rushing and enjoy the journey.
- At night: the route is lit and safe, though it’s always better to go with company.
Public Transport: The Most Convenient Option
Granada has minibuses that connect the center with Sacromonte:
- Line C34 (Albaicín – Sacromonte) → Departs from Plaza Nueva and drops you a few meters from the Cave.
- Line C32 (Albaicín – Alhambra) → Another option if you’re near the Alhambra and want to connect to the area.
Tip: These minibuses are small because the streets of Albaicín and Sacromonte are narrow, so it’s advisable to go with some advance time.
Taxi or Ride-Hailing
If you prefer greater comfort, you can request a taxi or service like Uber/Bolt:
- From Granada’s center the journey takes about 10 minutes.
- The price usually ranges between €6 and €10, depending on traffic and time of day.
It’s the best alternative if you’re traveling in a group or prefer to avoid the hills.
Arriving by Car
Although it’s possible to arrive by car, it’s not the most recommended. The streets of Sacromonte are narrow with little parking space.
If you decide to do so:
- Look for parking in the lower areas of Albaicín or at Parking San Cristóbal and continue on foot or by bus.
Tips for Visitors from Outside Granada
- Arrive with time: at least 20-30 minutes before the show, to enjoy without rushing.
- Comfortable footwear: if you decide to walk, wear appropriate shoes for hills and cobblestones.
- Plan ahead: if you’re coming from another city, keep in mind that Granada has a train and bus station, as well as an airport with shuttle bus connection to the center.
- Make the most of your visit: combine your flamenco evening with a stroll through Albaicín or dinner at the typical tea houses.
Getting to Cueva Los Amayas is already part of the adventure: cobbled streets, magical views and the unique atmosphere of Sacromonte. And once inside, the best awaits you: an authentic flamenco show in one of Granada’s most iconic caves.
